Plum Purple Kanjeevaram Silk Sari with Diamond Cluster Butas and Peacock Zari Border

A plum purple Kanjeevaram in two registers — the body shifts from deep aubergine to a brighter violet depending on the light, a quality particular to Kanchipuram silk that no photograph quite captures. Across it sit small diamond-cluster butas in gold-toned zari, four petals arranged symmetrically, spaced widely enough that the silk itself remains the main event.

The border brings the weight: temple spikes leading into framed peacock panels, each bird enclosed in its own cartouche, worked in gold zari across a dark ground. The pallu is a full floral medallion jaal — interlocking circles and cross-forms covering the entire panel — one of the more labour-intensive weaves in the Kanchipuram tradition. A slim electric blue selvedge edges the length, a sharp and deliberate contrast against all that plum.

A sari for evening weddings and bridal parties. The purple-blue combination is unusual in Kanjeevarams and makes this piece considerably harder to find than the standard jewel-tone options.
